STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's volleyball team (9-7) rallied late in the third set to complete a sweep of Concordia University Chicago (6-10) in the home finale on Tuesday.
Dylan Niznik (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) led the Pointers in kills with 11.
Zach Meyers (Bristol, Wis./Westosha Central) had a team-high 10 digs.
Josh Brogren (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn Area) racked up 25 assists.
Meyers and Niznik combined for five early kills, but UWSP trailed until a Niznik ace tied the set at 7-7.
Kyle Smith (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) recorded his first kill of the match sparking 10-2 run as the Pointers took a 20-12 lead.
Henry Rowden (Shorewood, Wis./Shorewood) had a late kill as UWSP took the opening set, 25-18.
Smith began the second set with a kill as the Pointers jumped in front, 3-0.
Spencer Baeckman (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) and Smith combined for consecutive blocks to give UWSP a 13-10 advantage. Niznik had a kill and two blocks late as the Pointers took the second set, 25-23.
Meyers started the third set with a kill. Brogren added a pair of kills and a
Wren Dietz (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) kill got UWSP within 12-10. Baeckman had three kills and a block, but UWSP was still down at 19-16. Smith posted a massive solo block in a 4-0 burst to tie the set at 20-20. Niznik, Baeckman and Meyers each had a kill as UWSP rallied for a 25-23 win to complete the sweep.
The Pointers hit the road to close out the season beginning on Friday (Mar. 8) at Wisconsin Lutheran. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
