UWSP Men's Volleyball Finishes Season Sweep of WLC

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The UW-Stevens Point men's volleyball team (9-7) completed the season sweep of Wisconsin Lutheran (3-14) with a 3-0 win on Friday night.
 
Spencer Baeckman (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) posted a team-high nine kills. Josh Brogren (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn Area) posted another double-double with 25 assists and a team-best 10 digs.
 
Baeckman posted two kills and a block as the Pointers took an early 5-3 lead. Zach Meyers (Bristol, Wis./Westosha Central) recorded a kill as UWSP began to rally from down 16-9. Brogren and Caleb Palmer (Littleton, Col./Chatfield) each had an ace and Baeckman added three kills as UWSP used a 9-3 run to close within 19-18. Kyle Smith (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) had a kill and a block as the Pointers took a 22-20 lead. Meyers closed the set with a kill for a 25-23 win.
 
Meyers and Palmer each had a block early, but UWSP again played from behind, 5-4. Dylan Niznik (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) had a block and a kill with Baeckman serving an ace as the Pointers got within 20-18. Smith made a pair of blocks in a 5-0 burst as UWSP rallied for another 25-23 win in set two.
 
Smith had two kills as the Pointers opened set three with a 6-5 lead. Meyers added two kills and a block as UWSP upped the lead to 11-9. Another ace by Palmer and he added a kill in a 5-0 burst breaking a 12-12 tie. Niznik buried two kills in another 5-0 run as UWSP finished set three with a 25-15 win.
 
The Pointers travel back to Milwaukee on Friday (March 15) to face Bryant & Stratton and MSOE beginning at 3:00 p.m.
