MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The UW-Stevens Point men's tennis team fought hard in a 5-4 loss at Cornell on Saturday in non-conference action.
The Pointers fell behind 3-0 after getting swept in doubles play, despite UWSP's No. 1 duo of
Steven Benoy (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) and
Frederick Diehl (Minneapolis, Minn./Academy of Holy Angles) and the No. 2 pairing of
Conner Kryscio (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) and
Dominik Hendrickson (Menomonie, Wis./Menomonie) each winning four games.
Benoy got UWSP on the board with a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles. Diehl posted a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles.
At No. 5 singles, Hendrickson won a super-breaker. He took the first set, 6-3. After falling in set two, 6-1, he rallied for a 10-6 win in the super-breaker.
Hayden Schreier (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) earned the win at No. 6 singles, 7-5, 6-4. Kryscio fell at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 7-5.
The Pointers travel to Madison on Saturday (April 6) for an 11:00 a.m. match against Edgewood.
