OSHKOSH, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's tennis team fell to Hamline in the completion of a suspended match from the fall by a 5-4 final.
The teams completed the doubles matches on the original scheduled Sept. 9 date in Minnesota. Back then, the No. 3 doubles team of
Dominik Hendrickson (Menomonie, Wis./Menomonie) and
Dan Harris (Eau Claire, Wis./Altoona) earned won by an 8-3 score.
UWSP's No.1 doubles squad of
Steven Benoy (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) and
Luca Hettstedt (Marbella, Spain/German School Marbella) won five games.
Hayden Schreier (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) and
Connor Paullin (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) won six games at No. 2 doubles.
On Thursday, Benoy battled to a huge win at No. 1 singles. After falling in the first set, 7-5, he rallied for a 7-5 win in the second set. In the super-breaker, he pulled out a 14-12 win.
Hettstedt won his No. 3 singles match with 7-5, 6-4 set wins. Schreier earned a win at No. 5 singles taking the first set, 6-4. He won the second set, 7-6 (3).
UWSPs other singles matches were all close matches.
Conner Kryscio (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) lost the first set, 6-1, at No. 2 singles. Then in the second set, he nearly forced a super-breaker, but came up short in a tiebreak, 7-6 (3).
Hendrickson fell at No. 4 singles, 7-5, 6-4. At No. 6 singles, Paullin won five games.
The Pointers resume spring action on Saturday (Feb. 10) at Augustana. First serve is slated for 2:00 p.m.
