Men’s Volleyball Notches First-Ever Road Win

DE PERE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's volleyball team (3-4) earned its first-ever road win with a 3-1 (19-25, 25-10, 25-19, 25-19) victory over The University of Olivet (2-8) at the St. Norbert Tournament.
 
Josh Brogren (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn Area) posted his second double-double of the weekend with a match-high 39 assists and he added 12 digs. Zach Meyers (Bristol, Wis./Westosha Central) racked up a season-high 22 kills. Andy Sanchez (Mesa, Ariz./Desert Ridge) led the Pointers with 18 digs.
 
Meyers capped a 3-0 run with an ace as UWSP took an early 3-1 lead. He added five kills in the set, but UO won the opening set.
 
Brogren served two aces and Meyers added a pair of kills as the Pointers opened the second with a 9-0 run. Dylan Niznik (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) added two kills as the lead grew to 14-2. Wren Dietz (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) had two kills and a lock as UWSP rolled to the second-set win.
 
Kyle Smith (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) had a block and a kill in the third as UWSP fell behind, 13-11. Meyers, Niznik and Spencer Baeckman (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) each had a kill in a 6-0 burst. Meyers added two kills and two blocks as the Pointers rallied to take the third set.
 
Meyers took over in the fourth set. He had seven kills, an ace and a block. Niznik had four kills with Brogren adding a pair of blocks, a kill and an ace.
 
The Pointers return home to face Wisconsin Lutheran on Tuesday (Feb. 6). First serve in Berg Gym is set for 7:00 p.m.
