Benoy Wins Super-Breaker in Marathon Match at Bethel

ROGERS, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point men's tennis team played three super-breakers in singles and two tiebreaks in doubles in an 8-1 loss at Bethel on Friday.
 
Steven Benoy (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) was the only victorious Pointer on the day. He won the first set at No. 1 singles, 6-2. In set two, he fell by a 6-3 score. Then in the super-breaker, he won, 10-3.
 
Luca Hettstedt (Marbella, Spain/German School Marbella) forced a super-breaker at No. 4 singles. He won the opening set, 6-3, and dropped set two by the same score. He came up just short in the super-breaker, 10-8.
 
At. No. 6 singles, Hayden Schreier (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) won the first set, 7-5. He lost set two by a 6-4 score. In the super-breaker, he fell, 10-7.
 
Benoy and partner Frederick Diehl (Minneapolis, Minn./Academy of Holy Angles) took the No. 1 doubles match to a tiebreak, falling 8-7 (2). Connor Paullin (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) and Dominik Hendrickson (Menomonie, Wis./Menomonie) forced a tiebreak at No. 2 doubles, falling by an 8-7 (5) final.
 
Hendrickson won six games at No. 5 singles. Paullin won five games at No. 3 singles. Hettstedt and Schreier fell at no. 3 doubles, 8-3.
 
The Pointers play at Northwestern on Saturday (Feb. 24) at 11:30 a.m. in Minnesota.
