Men’s Volleyball Earns Home Sweep Against Rockford

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's volleyball team (6-5) swept visiting Rockford (1-9) by a 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 29-27) final on Tuesday night.
 
Zach Meyers (Bristol, Wis./Westosha Central) posted his third double-double of the season with 10 kills and 10 digs. Dylan Niznik (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) led the Pointers with a game-high 14 kills. Gabe Uttech (Fall River, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) tied Meyers for the team-lead with 10 digs. Josh Brogren (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn Area) led all players with 25 assists.
 
Niznik had consecutive kills as UWSP edged ahead, 4-3, early in the first. Meyers had a kill in a 7-0 run as UWSP took a 14-9 lead. Kyle Smith (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) had a kill and Brogren served an ace as UWSP used a 7-1 run to go ahead 21-12. Niznik added two late kills as the Pointers took the opening set.
 
Smith and Wren Dietz (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) each had an early kill as the Pointers jumped in front, 9-5, in the second set. Meyers and Smith each had an ace and Niznik added two kills in a 13-3 run as UWSP doubled up the Regents, 22-11. Gabriel LoGalbo (Stevens Point, Wis./Three Lakes) recorded his first career kill to seal the set win.
 
Meyers and Niznik had a pair of kills each as UWSP took a 13-11 advantage. Spencer Baeckman (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) had a kill as the Pointers began to dig out of a 19-16 hole. Meyers had two kills and an ace and Niznik gave the Pointers match point, 24-22, with a kill. Niznik had three more kills giving the Pointers three more match points. Meyers gave the Pointers the win with the kill at 29-27.
 
The Pointers remain at home to host Bryant and Stratton and Viterbo on Saturday (Feb. 24). The first match starts at 10:00 a.m.
