MEQUON, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's volleyball team (5-5) saw its three-game win streak snapped with a 3-0 (25-8, 25-22, 25-19) loss at Concordia (Wis.) (5-5) on Saturday.
Dylan Niznik (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community),
Zach Meyers (Bristol, Wis./Westosha Central) and
Wren Dietz (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) had five kills each to lead the Pointers.
Josh Brogren (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn Area) had 19 assists.
Andy Sanchez (Mesa, Ariz./Desert Ridge) and Meyers were both in double figures in digs with 11 and 10, respectively.
The Falcons opened the match with a 14-0 run.
Kyle Smith (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) had UWSP's first kill to make it 18-3.
Spencer Baeckman (Germantown, Wis./Germantown), Niznik and Meyers each had a kill as UWSP was unable to recover from the early hole.
Baeckman had an ace amid a 3-0 run as UWSP took a 9-5 lead early in the second. Smith and Dietz had consecutive kills as UWSP regained a 19-18 edge. Dietz and Niznik each had a kill late, but CUW pulled out the second set win.
Niznik had a pair of kills as UWSP stayed close at 6-4. Baeckman had a pair of kills as UWSP put up a 5-1 burst to get within 16-12. The Pointers couldn't muster a late rally and fell in straight sets.
The Pointers return home to face Rockford on Tuesday (Feb. 20). First serve is set for 6:00 p.m. in Berg Gym.
