PLYMOUTH, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's volleyball team (5-4) won its three-straight match with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-21) sweep at Lakeland (2-7) on Saturday.
Zach Meyers (Bristol, Wis./Westosha Central) led the Pointers with 13 kills.
Josh Brogren (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn Area) had 24 assists and
Andy Sanchez (Mesa, Ariz./Desert Ridge) led UWSP with nine digs.
Meyers,
Wren Dietz (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) and
Dylan Niznik (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) each had a kill as UWSP doubled up the Muskies, 6-3.
Kyle Smith (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) had a pair of kills and Niznik added three more for a 17-13 lead.
Spencer Baeckman (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) had a kill to spark an 8-1 run to close out the set win.
Meyers had four kills early as UWSP opened the second set ahead, 13-7. Meyers added three more kills in the set and a late block by Dietz sealed the set victory.
Baeckman had two early kills and an ace as UWSP battled back to within 10-8. He added three more kills and consecutive blocks by Smith helped the Pointers secure the sweep.
The Pointers will head to Mequon on Saturday (Feb. 17) for a 6:00 p.m. match at Concordia (Wis.).
