MENOMONIE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's soccer team (8-2-3, 1-0-0) got a 2-0 win in the program's first conference match at UW-Stout (2-10-0, 0-1-0) on Saturday.
Jack Hudson (Delafield, Wis./Arrowhead) began the scoring in the 14th minute. His eventual game-winner was assisted on by
Marcelo Chavez (Verona, Wis./Verona Area) for the 1-0 lead.
Keegan Bell (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) doubled the advantage in the 41st minute.
Riley Nycz (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) provided the helper of the goal for a 2-0 lead at the break.
Neither team scored in the second half as UWSP out-shot Stout, 15-3, in the second 45. UWSP's
Cameron Jochimsen (Freedom, Wis./Freedom) hit the cross bar in the 55th minute.
Devin Wilkerson (La Crosse, Wis./Central) had a shot saved off the line in the 60th minute.
Jacob Havlik (Onalaska, WIs./Onalaska) made four saves to complete the shutout, his third clean sheet in the last four matches. Stout goalkeeper Max Kutz had nine saves.
The Pointers travel to Iowa on Tuesday (Oct. 8) for a 6:00 p.m. non-conference match against Loras.
