STEVENS POINT, Wis. – UW-Stevens Point men's soccer forward
Devin Wilkerson (La Crosse, Wis./Central) posted the biggest night in program history on Wednesday in the Pointers' 5-1 win over Beloit (1-10-0).
Wilkerson posted a seven-point night with two goals and an assist on each of the other three goals. His three assists tied the WIAC single-match record.
It took the Pointers (7-2-3) less than a minute to break onto the scoreboard. Wilkerson picked up his first assist of the night on
Marcelo Chavez's (Verona, Wis./Verona Area) first goal of the match just 47 seconds in.
Less than two minutes later, Wilkerson notched another assist as
Carson Fitzgerald (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) put UWSP ahead, 2-0, in the third minute of play.
The visiting Buccaneers pulled a goal back in the 34th minute and the Pointers led 2-1 at the half.
Wilkerson put his first goal of the night on the board in the 51st minute. He corralled a loose ball off a throw in and tucked the shot inside the right post.
In the 64th minute, Wilkerson scored another off an assist from Chavez for a 4-1 lead.
Wilkerson completed his record night with another assist in the 88th minute as
Alex Granados (Menasha, Wis./Menasha) scored his second of the season.
Reigning WIAC Player of the Week
Jacob Havlik (Onalaska, WIs./Onalaska) made six saves in the win. Beloit played a trio of goalkeepers combining for seven saves.
The Pointers will begin conference play on Saturday (Oct. 5) at UW-Stout. Play begins at 5:00 p.m. in Menomonie.
