ST. PAUL, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point men's tennis team pulled off a 4-3 win at Hamline to wrap up the fall season.
Connor Kryscio earned a first-set tiebreak win at No. 4 singles, 7-6 (1). He then swept the second set, 6-0, to break a 3-3 tie and earn UWSP the win.
The Pointers got the team doubles point as No. 2 duo of
Frederick Diehl (Minneapolis, Minn./Academy of Holy Angles) and
Steven Benoy (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) won 6-3 and No. 3 pair of
Anthony Janes (Bismarck, N.D./Legacy) and
Dawson Froemming (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) took a 6-1 win.
Benoy won at No. 1 singles by a 6-2, 6-3 final. Diehl rallied after dropping the first set, 6-2, at No. 3 singles. He won the second set, 6-4, to force a super-breaker. He prevailed in the super-breaker, 12-10.
Janes and
Malcolm Rice (Marion, Iowa/Linn Mar) both forced super-breakers at No. 6 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Both came up just short, 10-7.
The Pointers return to action in the spring. Date, time and opponent are yet to be determined.
