LA CROSSE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's tennis team was unable to finish off UW-La Crosse or UW-Superior in non-conference action on Saturday. UWSP fell to UWL, 5-2, and UWS, 4-3.
Connor Kryscio won both of his No. 5 singles matches on the day. He got a 6-1, 6-2 win versus UWS and a 6-4, 6-2 victory against UWL.
Steven Benoy (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) got a super-breaker win at No. 1 singles against UWL, 3-6, 6-2, 10-4.
Frederick Diehl (Minneapolis, Minn./Academy of Holy Angles) also won a super-breaker, 6-2, 3-6, 10-8, at No. 3 singles against the Yellowjackets.
The Pointers won the team doubles point against UWS as
Ayden Knuth (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) and
Malcolm Rice (Marion, Iowa/Linn Mar) took No. 2, 6-3, and
Dawson Froemming (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) and
Anthony Janes (Bismarck, N.D./Legacy) took No. 3, 7-5. Knuth and Rice won 6-3 at No.2 doubles against UWL.
Janes forced a super-breaker at No. 6 singles in both matches on the day. He fell to UWL, 3-6, 6-0, 12-10. Against UWS, he dropped a 7-5, 4-6, 10-7 score. Rice also forced a super-breaker against the Eagles, falling, 1-6, 6-3, 14-12.
Benoy, Froemming and Rice all won six games in singles play against Superior.
UWSP closes the fall slate at Hamline on Saturday (Oct. 19) beginning at 11:00 a.m.
