Men’s Tennis Sending Five Through to Day Two at ITA Regionals

ST. PETER, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point men's tennis team has five members moving on to day two of the ITA Regionals and Midwest Open after day one action on Friday.

Luca Hettstedt (Marbella, Spain/German School Marbella) won twice on Friday in the Midwest Open Singles C bracket. He won 5-4, 4-1 against Carleton. Then he picked up a 4-1, 4-1 win over St. Scholastica. Hettstedt will face an opponent from Central (Iowa) on Saturday.
 
Dominik Hendrickson (Menomonie, Wis./Menomonie) also earned two wins in the Midwest Open Singles C bracket. He earned a 5-3, 4-1 win over Bethel to begin the day. In the second round, he beat an opponent from St. Scholastica by a 4-2, 4-1 score. Hendrickson came up just short in the third round winning the first set 5-4 against St. John's. But he fell in the second set, 5-3, and in the super-breaker, 10-6.
 
Hettstedt and Hendrickson also got a win in the Midwest Open doubles. They needed a tiebreaker to take the 8-7 win over St. Mary's.
 
Connor Paullin (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) and Hayden Schreier (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) won their doubles match in the Midwest Open, 8-2, over a pair from Edgewood. In the Midwest Open Singles B bracket, Paullin took the first set against UWW, 5-3, but fell in the second, 4-2, and the super-breaker, 10-2. Schreier dropped his opening match in the Midwest Open Singles B bracket to Carleton, 4-0, 4-0.
 
Frederick Diehl (Minneapolis, Minn./Academy of Holy Angles) received a bye in the Midwest Open Singles B bracket. In the second round, he fell to an opponent from Carleton by a 4-2, 4-0 score. Diehl and doubles partner Steven Benoy (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) fell in a tiebreaker against a duo from Bethany Lutheran, 8-7.
 
Saturday's action begins at 9:00 a.m. in Minnesota.
