STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Following a furious start to the season, the UW-Stevens Point athletics schedule for this week calms to a simmer.
Women's Soccer
Wednesday, Sept. 13 – 4:00 p.m. – vs. Carthage (Point Soccer Bowl)
Fresh off the first win of the season, the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team will play Carthage at home on Wednesday. It will mark the final home match before a three-match road swing. In Friday's 1-0 win over Hamline,
Cass Klitzke (Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg Area) scored her first goal of the season, heading in a corner kick in the 81stst minute. Her goal was the game-winner as
Savannah Reed (Waukegan, Ill./St. Joseph Catholic Academy) notched her first career shutout and first career win in goal. The Pointers and Firebirds played to a 1-1 draw last season. UWSP is 1-0-2 in the last three meetings against Carthage.
Women's Tennis
Friday, Sept. 15 – 3:00 p.m. – at UW-Stout (Menomonie, Wis.)
The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team opens league play on Friday at UW-Stout. The Pointers enter the week 3-0 after defeating Hamline on Saturday, 7-2.
Tristin Jantz (Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) was victorious in singles and in doubles with partner
Jordan Scharf (Wauwatosa, Wis./West). Jantz needed a super-breaker to take the No.1 singles match.
Brooklynn Steier (West De Pere, Wis./West De Pere) also won by super-breaker on Saturday rallying back after dropping the first set. Last season, UWSP defeated Stout, 9-0.
Women's Volleyball
Friday, Sept. 15 – 5:00 p.m. – vs. DePauw (Kenosha, Wis.)
Friday, Sept. 15 – 7:00 p.m. – at Carthage (Kenosha, Wis.)
After eight matches over nine days in three different states, the UW-Stevens Point volleyball team will have just two matches this week at the Carthage Tri. UWSP will face DePauw and host Carthage on Friday in Kenosha. Last week,
Ashley Kopp (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) posted two more double-doubles and earned all-tournament team honors at the IWU Tournament, her second such honor this season. In Friday's win over Concordia (Wis.), the Pointers held the Falcons to a -0.050 hitting percentage, the lowest by an opponent since Oct. 22, 2022, at Wheaton. UWSP has out-lasted Carthage in five sets in each of the last two seasons.
Men's Golf
Sunday, Sept. 10 – TBD – at Frank Wrigglesworth Invitational (Eau Claire, Wis. – Eau Claire Golf & CC)
The UW-Stevens Point men's golf team looks to rebound after a 15th-place finish at the stacked Bethel Minnesota Classic last week.
Josh Brogren (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn Area) had UWSP's best finish shooting a 73 in the second round, his best round of the weekend.
Connor Schaefer (Greenville, Wis./Hortonville) was the only Pointers to shoot under 80 in all three rounds.
