Pointers Win Four Events at the Esten Challenge

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's and women's track teams both finished sixth at the Esten Challenge on Saturday.
 
Results: Men | Women
 
Braedon Gilles (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) took first place in the 800-meter run. His time of 1:55.36 was more than three seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
 
Gilles teamed with Mason Mead (Wausau, Wis./West), Quinn Greer (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn) and Brad Brewer (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) to win the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:22.86, nearly five seconds faster than the runner-up.
 
The UWSP women's 4x400-meter relay team of Ashley Bartelt (Hartford, Wis./Hartford Union), Anetha Vogele (Necedah, Wis./Necedah), Brooke Wellhausen (Williams Bay, Wis./Big Foot) and Mackenzie Johnson (Cumberland, Wis./Cumberland) were also winners with a time of 4:02.57, an 18 second margin of victory.
 
Bartelt was first in the 400-meter hurdles. Her time of 1:03.24 was a mere 0.21 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
 
Paige Allemann (Waumandee, Wis./Cochrane-Fountain City) placed second in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:38.22.
 
Ian Klein (New Berlin, Wis./West) had a runner-up finish in the high jump clearing the bar at 2.01 meters (6' 7").
 
UWSP will travel to De Pere on Saturday (April 29) for the SNC Invite, the final tune up prior to the WIAC Championships.
