Benoy, Mosquera Herrero Earn Win in League Match at UWEC

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's tennis team played UW-Eau Claire in a conference match and St. Scholastica in non-conference action on Saturday. UWSP fell to UWEC, 7-2, and to CSS, 9-0.
 
Steven Benoy (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) won his No. 1 singles match against UWEC. He dropped the first set, 6-3, before battling back from a 3-1 deficit to win the second set in a tie break, 7-5. In the match tiebreaker, he prevailed with a 10-7 win.
 
Diego Mosquera Herrero (Madrid, Spain) won his No. 2 singles match against UWEC in convincing, 6-1, 6-4 fashion. In his match against CSS, he battled to tie break in the second set before falling, 6-3, 7-6 (6).
 
Benoy and Mosquera Herrero put up a solid showing at No. 1 doubles. They dropped a hard-fought 8-6 score against the Blugolds. In the match against the Saints, they got within a break after trailing 4-1 before dropping an 8-4 final.
 
Connor Paullin (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) and Hayden Schreier (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) also got within a break before falling at No 2 doubles against UWEC, 8-4. The duo also came up short, 8-4, against CSS.
 
Austin Kahl (Janesville, Wis./Craig) made his Pointers debut against the Saint and won 7 games in a 6-4, 6-3 defeat at No. 6 singles.
 
Dan Harris (Eau Claire, Wis./Altoona) won three games in each set at No. 6 singles in the league match against the Blugolds.
 
The Pointers travel to De Pere to face St. Norbert on Sunday (Feb. 5). Play is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
