ST. PAUL, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point men's tennis team opened the spring season with an 8-1 defeat at Macalester on Friday night.
UWSP's No. 1 doubles pairing of
Steven Benoy (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) and
Diego Mosquera Herrero (Madrid, Spain) won an 8-6 battle.
Mosquera Herrero forced a tiebreaker at No. 2 singles. He won the opening set, 6-4. After dropping the second set, 6-2, he came up just short in the tiebreaker, 11-9.
Samuel Zapata Hernandez (Envigado, Col./Colegio Colombo Britanico) also forced a tiebreaker at No. 5 singles. He took the first set by a 7-5 final. But fell in the second set, 6-3, and the tiebreaker, 10-4.
The Pointers return to action on Saturday (Jan. 28) with a 9:00 a.m. matchup against No. 17 Gustavus Adolphus before facing Grinnell at 12:30 p.m.
