STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (1-4-2) dropped a 4-2 decision to visiting No. 7 Wartburg (6-0-0) on Saturday. Shea Lynn Gerred stepped up to the spot late and extended her point streak to four matches.
The Knights got on the board first with a tally in the 19th minute on the fifth shot attempt on goal.
In the 27th minute, the Pointers leveled the match.
Jessica Camarato (DeForest, Wis./DeForest Area) created a turnover near midfield that
Gabby Dunn (Dallas, Texas/Bishop) picked up. She sent a shot forward and a run into the box by
Kati Frierdich (Neenah, Wis./Winneconne) created enough confusion on the Wartburg defense for the ball to trickle into the net for the equalizer.
Wartburg pulled ahead again the 39th minute and held a one-goal at the break. The Knights struck again in the 50th and the 70th minutes to push the lead to 4-1.
With just over a minute left in regulation, the Pointers were awarded a penalty kick after
Gina Wasniewski (Ironton, Minn./Brainerd) was taken down in the box. Gerred stepped to the spot and buried the PK.
UWSP goalkeeper
Miranda Nieman (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) made a career-high 13 saves in just 59 minutes of action.
Bergen Beversdorf (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) made her UWSP debut and played the final 31 minutes. Wartburg goalkeeper Marissa Lopez made just one save in the win.
The Pointers remain at home for a Senior Day matchup against St. Norbert on Sunday (Sept. 18). Kickoff at Point Soccer Bowl is slated for 1:00 p.m.
