Pointers Fall in First Dual of the Season Against UW-Eau Claire

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point swimming and diving team opened up their 2022-23 season by winning nine events in their dual against UW-Eau Claire. The UWSP women finished with a score of 115 to UWEC's 185 and the UWSP men finished with a score of 111 to UWEC's 189.  

RESULTS 

The women were led by Brooke Buck (Wausau, Wis./AZBA Academy) and Joy Vandenberg (Black Creek, Wis./Appleton North), who both won two events each. Buck won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:01.32 and the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.43. She also finished in second place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:29.72.  

Vandenberg topped the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.18 and the 100-yard butterfly with a time 1:01.28.  

Kasey Fris (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) also won the 200-yard backstroke, clocking a time of 2:11.83. Fris took second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.41 and in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:21.63.  

The relay team of Buck, Kyler Ernst (Fountain City, Wis./Luther), Paige Anderson (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake Area) and Signe Alger (Saint Peter, Minn./Saint Peter) took second place in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:48.71.  

The men won four events in the dual starting with the 200-yard medley relay team of Jacob Larsen (Albany, Wis./Oregon), Owen Miller (Mequon, Wis./Mequon), Gus Grimstad (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah), and Jacob Biscan (Edina, Minn./Edina) with a time of 1:34.31 

Grimstad won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 53.04. He also took second place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 52.46 and in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:59.25.  

Miller topped the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.69. Biscan won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.02, beating out the second-place finisher by 0.06 seconds. Miller and Will Lennertz (Muskego, Wis./Franklin) tied for third place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.18.  

Larsen finished second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:01.63.  

The relay team of Lennertz, Larsen, Caiden Kuehn (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) and Biscan took second place in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:14.00.  

The Pointers will head to St. Peter, Minn. to compete in the GAC-Mankato Tri-Dual on Nov. 5. The meet will begin at 1:00 p.m.
