LA CROSSE, Wis. – Senior goalkeeper
Miranda Nieman (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) made a career-high 21 saves as the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (3-5-2, 0-1-0) dropped a 1-0 decision at UW-La Crosse (8-1-1, 1-0-0) in the WIAC opener on Saturday.
Nieman's lone blemish came in the fifth minute as the Eagles took the 1-0 lead. She had nine saves before UWSP's
Gabby Dunn (Dallas, Texas/Bishop Lynch) tested the UWL keeper in the 19th minute.
She had three more saves before halftime and nine more in the second half to keep UWSP within one goal.
Jessica Camarato (DeForest, Wis./DeForest Area) had two of UWSP's five shots on target.
Kati Frierdich (Neenah, Wis./Winneconne) and
Cass Klitzke (Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg Area) had the Pointers' others.
The Pointers return home for consecutive league matches beginning on Wednesday (Oct. 5) against UW-Oshkosh. The match is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m.
