WHEATON, Ill. – Junior
Matt Berlin (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) ran his season record to 25-0 by winning the 133 bracket at the Pete Willson Invitational for the UW-Stevens Point men's wrestling team on Saturday.
Brackets
Berlin earned a 2-0 decision win in the semifinals on Saturday. In the championship bout, he beat David Massey of Mount Union in a 4-2 decision.
Jordan Weinzetl (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) placed third in the 165 bracket. He won by fall at 2:01 in his first match in the consolation bracket. Then in the third-place match, he won a 3-0 decision over Jordan Hardrick of Ohio Northern.
Brandon Peckham (Plainfield, Wis./Tri-County) also competed on Saturday, placing eighth in the 157 bracket. He lost a 5-1 decision in his first match of the day and was pinned with 30 seconds remaining in the seventh-place match.
The Pointers finished 11th as a team out of the 34-team field.
UWSP closes out the home slate with a dual against UW-La Crosse in Berg Gym on Friday (Feb. 7). Action is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
