STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's wrestling team used the excitement of honorary team captain Miguel Duran to hang with No. 13 UW-Whitewater through the first few matches, but ultimately dropped the dual to the Warhawks by a 33-16 final.
 
Luke Smiley (Plainfield, Ill./North) put UWSP in front with a 5-4 decision win at 157 to begin the dual.  Dan Squires (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) earned a win by fall in the second period at 184.  Jerry Lipke (Milton, Wis./Milton) tied the dual at 12-12 with a 5-1 decision victory at 197.
 
Matt Berlin (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) remained perfect on the season, improving to 21-0 with a 13-1 major decision win at 133 to close out the scoring for UWSP. 
 
The Pointers travel to the Pete Willson Invitational in Wheaton, Ill. On Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.  Action begins at 11:00 a.m. that Friday.
