WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. –
Matt Berlin (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) and
Jordan Weinzetl (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) earned all-tournament honors after going undefeated on the weekend for the UW-Stevens Point men's wrestling team. On Saturday, the Pointers dropped close duals to Springfield, 20-18, and SUNY Cortland, 25-16, to place eighth among the 16 team field at the Budd Whitehill Duals.
Results
Berlin opened the day with a 1-0 decision win at 133 against Springfield.
Brandon Peckham (Plainfield, Wis./Tri-County) also won by decision, 4-1, at 157. Weinzetl pinned his opponent in 6:08 at 165 and
Taran Holland (Princeton, Wis./Princeton) won a 10-4 decision at 174 to give UWSP a 15-13 lead.
Jerry Lipke (Milton, Wis./Milton) won a close 5-4 decision at 197, but Springfield won at 285 to eke out the dual win.
Against the Red Dragons, Berlin won by fall at 2:53 and
Zane Strubler (St. Paris, Ohio/Miami East) won a 7-2 decision as UWSP pulled ahead, 9-6. Peckham recorded another win with a 4-2 decision as the Pointers retook the lead. Weinzetl capped his undefeated weekend with a 9-0 major decision, but Cortland closed out the dual with four-straight wins.
Berlin and Weinzetl were awarded all-tournament honors after going 5-0 on the weekend at 133 and 165, respectively.
The Pointers travel to Mequon for a dual against Concordia on Thursday (Jan. 16). Action starts at 7:00 p.m.
