WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore
Jerry Lipke (Milton, Wis./Milton) pinned all three of his opponents as the UW-Stevens Point men's wrestling team went 2-1 on the opening day of the Budd Whitehill Duals on Friday. UWSP defeated host Lycoming, 25-22, and Williams, 33-17, before settling for second in the group with a 26-19 loss to Messiah.

In the opening dual against Lycoming,
Matt Berlin (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) won a major decision, 13-5, at 133.
Zane Strubler (St. Paris, Ohio/Miami East) followed with a 5-3 decision win at 141. At 165,
Jordan Weinzetl (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) won by fall to put UWSP briefly back in the lead. Trailing 22-13 with two matches left, Lipke pinned Brody Keefe at 197. Then at 285,
Noah Wieczorek (Clear Lake, Wis./Clear Lake) finished off the comeback with a win by fall.
Berlin needed just 1:27 to pin his opponent in the dual against Williams.
Mason Wheeler (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) and
Brandon Peckham (Plainfield, Wis./Tri-County) each recorded decision wins at 149 and 157, respectively. Weinzetl continued the momentum with another fall and
Zack Moon (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) won a decision at 174. Lipke sealed the victory with a fall in 1:45 and Wieczorek won by forfeit.
Berlin improved to 3-0 on the day with a major decision win, 10-2, in the Messiah dual. Weinzetl also completed an unbeaten day with a 9-3 decision. Lipke completed his trio of wins by fall, doing so in 1:49. Wieczorek won his third match of the day with another fall to close out the day.
The Pointers continue the Budd Whitehill Duals on Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m. ET. UWSP's first opponent will be determined after the completion of Group C action later today.
