STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Junior
Kaitlyn Hess (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) converted a penalty kick in the first half as the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (2-1-1) played to a 1-1 draw against visiting St. Olaf (2-1-1) on Sunday.
Hess' penalty kick put the Pointers in front in the 26th minute. UWSP was awarded the penalty after senior
Maddy Hardyman (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing) was taken down in the box.
UWSP's lead lasted 13 minutes until the Oles got the tying goal. A throw-in on the left side of the field was quickly turned into a 30 yards shot that sailed into the back corner of the net over the UWSP keeper.
Neither team was able to put home a tie-breaking goal in the second half or overtime, but both teams had chances.
UWSP goalkeeper
Miranda Nieman (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) remains unbeaten on the season. She made four saves, including one in the second overtime. St. Olaf goalkeeper Brynne Davis stopped nine UWSP shots.
The Pointers embark on a four-game road trip beginning on Wednesday (Sept. 11) with a 7:00 p.m. match at Carthage.
