STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (2-1-0) got a trio of goals from freshmen strikers in a 3-1 home-opener victory over Macalester (0-2-0) on Friday.
Kati Frierdich (Neenah, Wis./Winneconne) tallied two goals, including the game-winner, her first goals as a Pointer.
Fellow freshman
Mikayla Brown (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) got the Pointers on the board in the fifth minute of play, her second goal of the season. In the 17th minute, the Scots pulled even with a tally to make it 1-1.
Frierdich put UWSP back in front in the 25th minute, her first career goal.
Gracie Wendels (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Assumption) picked up an assist on the play.
In the second half, Frierdich found the back of the net again in the 65th minute to complete the scoring.
UWSP goalkeeper
Miranda Nieman (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) improved to 2-0 with one save. Macalester goalkeeper Kayla Togneri made nine saves.
The Pointers face St. Olaf on Sunday (Sept. 8) in a 1:00 p.m. match at Point Soccer Bowl.
