Frierdich’s Second-Half Brace Rallies Pointers Past Wartburg

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Freshman Kati Frierdich (Neenah, Wis./Winneconne) scored twice in the second half as the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (5-1-2) handed visiting No. 22 Wartburg (6-1-1) its first loss of the year, 2-1.

Wartburg took the lead in the 37th minute and held a 1-0 lead at the half.

In the 65th minute, Frierdich pulled UWSP level with her team-lead tying third goal of the season.

As the clock ticked down in regulation, it was Frierdich again with her team-best fourth goal of the season. Her game-winner came with just 13 seconds on the clock and Kassidy Spees (Nekoosa, Wis./Nekoosa) picked up an assist on the play.

Freshman goalkeeper Miranda Nieman (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) remained unbeaten with four saves in the victory.  Wartburg goalkeeper Marissa Lopez made two saves.

The Pointers continue the season's longest home stand on Sunday (Sept. 22) with a 2:00 p.m. kickoff against Dubuque.
