RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (7-2-2, 1-0-0) opened conference play with a convincing 5-0 victory over UW-Stout (3-6-0, 0-1-0) in River Falls on Saturday.
Kaitlyn Hess (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) opened the barrage of scoring with her first of the match in the 12th minute.
Jacqueline Aleman (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) picked up an assist on the eventual game-winner.
Hess struck again in the 18th minute with her second of the match to up the lead to 2-0.
Freshman
Lauren Johnson (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./SPASH) scored her first career goal in the 38th minute as UWSP took a 3-0 lead into the break.
Bridget Kauzlaric (Coal City, Ill./Coal City) tallied her first goal of the year in the 51st minute with an assist from
Shea-Lynn Gerred (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac), her first collegiate point.
UWSP's scoring was capped by
Kati Frierdich (Neenah, Wis./Winneconne) in the 70th minute.
Trinity Christy (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine) recorded her first assist as a Pointer on the play.
The Pointers out-shot the Blue Devils by a 39-1 margin. UWSP goalkeepers
Miranda Nieman (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) and
Lexi Pawlowski (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) combined for the shutout.
UWSP faces UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday (Oct. 9) at 4:00 p.m. in Stevens Point.
