STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (10-3-2, 4-1-0) scored twice in the first 18 minutes and defeated visiting UW-Oshkosh (6-8-1, 2-3-0) in the regular season home finale, 3-1. The victory assures the Pointers a spot in the WIAC Tournament.
Freshman
Kati Frierdich (Neenah, Wis./Winneconne) scored her team-leading seventh goal of the year in the 12th minute of play to give UWSP a 1-0 lead. She received a nice feed from
Meaghan Ambelang (Stuttgart, Germany/Patch/Stuttgart) and deked the UWO goalkeeper for the easy tap in.
In the 18th minute,
Gracie Wendels (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Assumption) doubled the UWSP lead with assists from
Maddy Hardyman (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing) and
Bridget Kauzlaric (Coal City, Ill./Coal City).
The Titans pulled one back in the 22nd minute off a corner kick as a scramble in the box saw UWO find an open net.
In the 53rd minute, it was Jaqueline Aleman finding a loose ball in the box. She drilled it into the back of the net for her second of the season.
UWSP's
Miranda Nieman (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) was forced to make just one save in the win. Her counterpart, Madelyn Runyan also made one save.
The Pointers travel to UW-Platteville on Saturday (Oct. 26) for a 2:00 p.m. league match with the Pioneers.
