STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (9-3-2, 3-1-0) took an early lead, but came up short in a 2-1 defeat to UW-Whitewater (9-4-3, 2-0-1) in league play on Saturday.
Freshman
Lauren Johnson (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./SPASH) put he Pointers ahead in the 11th minute on her third goal of the year.
Gracie Wendels (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Assumption) picked up an assist, her second of the season, on the play.
The lead was short-lived as the Warhawks pulled level in the 13th minute. UWW scored again the 32nd minute to take the lead.
As rain continued to fall, the Pointers' efforts of a comeback suffered as deteriorating field conditions saw UWSP put just two of nine second half shots on frame.

Miranda Nieman (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) and UWW goaltender Sara Klimisch each made three saves in the match.
The Pointers close out the regular season home slate on Wednesday (Oct. 23) with a 3:30 p.m. tilt against UW-Oshkosh.
