Pointers Record Third League Win by Shutout

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – For the second-straight Saturday, the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (9-2-2, 3-0-0) scored five goals and recorded a shutout at UW-River Falls (8-5-1, 1-1-0).

Gracie Wendels (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Assumption) opened the scoring with her first of two goals in the match.  Her tally in the 22nd minute was an unassisted goal.

Freshman Lauren Johnson (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./SPASH) netted her second of the season in the 41st minute to give UWSP a 2-0 lead at the half.

Wendels struck again just over a minute into the second half.  Her goal, assisted by Maddy Hardyman (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing), sparked a scoring barrage by UWSP.

Kati Frierdich (Neenah, Wis./Winneconne) scored her team-leading sixth goal of the year in the 51st minute off an assist from Meaghan Ambelang (Stuttgart, Germany/Patch/Stuttgart).  Just 30 seconds later, Hardyman scored, with Kaitlyn Hess (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) getting an assist, to complete the scoring.

Freshman goalkeeper Miranda Nieman (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) was untested in the win.  UWSP allowed just four shots against and none were on goal.

The Pointers return home on Saturday (Oct. 19) for a 1:00 p.m. tilt against UW-Whitewater.  It will be UWSP's Senior Day.
