RIVER FALLS, Wis. – For the second-straight Saturday, the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (9-2-2, 3-0-0) scored five goals and recorded a shutout at UW-River Falls (8-5-1, 1-1-0).
Gracie Wendels (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Assumption) opened the scoring with her first of two goals in the match. Her tally in the 22nd minute was an unassisted goal.
Freshman
Lauren Johnson (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./SPASH) netted her second of the season in the 41st minute to give UWSP a 2-0 lead at the half.
Wendels struck again just over a minute into the second half. Her goal, assisted by
Maddy Hardyman (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing), sparked a scoring barrage by UWSP.
Kati Frierdich (Neenah, Wis./Winneconne) scored her team-leading sixth goal of the year in the 51st minute off an assist from
Meaghan Ambelang (Stuttgart, Germany/Patch/Stuttgart). Just 30 seconds later, Hardyman scored, with
Kaitlyn Hess (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) getting an assist, to complete the scoring.
Freshman goalkeeper
Miranda Nieman (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) was untested in the win. UWSP allowed just four shots against and none were on goal.
The Pointers return home on Saturday (Oct. 19) for a 1:00 p.m. tilt against UW-Whitewater. It will be UWSP's Senior Day.
