WHITEWATER, Wis. - The UW-Stevens Point men's track and field team won three events and finished third in the 12-team field at the Leonard "Squig" Converse Invitational hosted by UW-Whitewater. The men earned 81 points on the day.
Results
After one day of competition,
Jeremy Lee (Viroqua, Wis./Viroqua) leads in the heptathlon with a score of 2661. He opened up the competition with a third-place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.48. He moved to the long jump and tied with teammate
Nick Chesterman (Sun Prairie, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran), each with leaps of 6.70 meters (21' 11.75").
Tom Kohn (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) won the triple jump in a convincing fashion with a distance of 14.39 meters (47' 2.50"), 0.67 meters farther than the second-place finisher. He leaped to a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 6.66 meters (21' 10.25"). In addition to his long jump performance, he nabbed another sixth-place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.67.
In a close call with a conference rival,
Calden Wojt (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) won the 200-meter dash crown. His winning time of 22.14 was just 0.03 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
Evan Torgerson (Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest) won the 400-meter dash crown with a time of 50.10, 0.44 seconds faster than the second-place finisher.
Wojt and Torgerson teamed up to run the first and fourth leg, respectively, of the 4x400-meter relay with
Matt Cieslak (Wilmot, Wis./Wilmot) and
Sam Welch (Manawa, Wis./Manawa). The quartet clocked in a time of 3:25.48, good for third.
Alex Egbert (La Crosse, Wis./Aquinas) picked up a third-place finish in the 800-meter run. The senior track athlete earned a time of 1:55.92, which was a second career-best time.
Tyler Tanko (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) nabbed a third-place finish in the 5,000-meter run. He crossed the finish line with a time of 15:36.16, only 7.87 seconds separated him from the first-place finisher.
Matt Stelmasek (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) paced himself to a time of 8:38.69 in the 3,000-meter run, good for a fourth-place finish.
Jared Schrang (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.46, which was a career-best time.
Blake Orr (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) and Isaiah Yaroch went five-six in the weight throw. The pair lobbied distances of 16.60 (54' 5.50") and 16.58 meters (54' 4.75"). Teammate
Caleb Rheinschmidt (Nekoosa, Wis./Nekoosa) tossed a distance of 16.25 meters (53' 3.75"). Rheinschmidt came in seventh in the shot put with a distance of 14.58 meters (47' 10.00").
Pointers cross country member
Christian Howerton (Hobart, Ind./Hobart) represented the Pointers well in the one-mile run. He finished among the top-10 with an eighth-place finish with a time of 4:36.29.
Colin Beattie (Green Oaks, Ill./Libertyville) earned a 12th-place finish in the pole vault. He cleared the bar at a height of 3.73 meters (12' 2.75").
