Pointers Wrestling Schedule for 2018-19 Announced

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – UW-Stevens Point head wrestling coach Johnny Johnson announced today (July 25) his team's schedule for the 2018-19 season.

The Pointers open at home with the Alumni Dual on Friday, Oct. 19.  Two weeks later, UWSP will host the Pointer Open, which will take place in Quandt Fieldhouse on Nov. 3.
 
A week later, the Pointers travel to Oshkosh for the Dan Gable Open, the first of four meets in 11 days.  On Nov. 14, UWSP opens conference action at UW-Whitewater.  A trip to Mequon for the Concordia Open occurs on Nov. 17.
 
UWSP will host UW-Oshkosh for a conference dual on Nov. 20 to end the opening month of action.  December begins with a trip to the Luther Open in Iowa before back-to-back home conference duals against UW-Platteville (Dec. 5) and UW-Eau Claire (Dec. 12).  UWSP travels back to Iowa to close out the calendar year with duals against Dubuque, MSOE and Wheaton on Dec. 15.
 
The Pointers open 2019 at the annual Budd Whitehill Duals in Pennsylvania on Jan. 11 and 12.  UWSP returns home to close out action at Berg Gym with duals against UW-Parkside (Jan. 17) and Concordia (Wis.) (Jan. 21).
 
January ends with a trip to Wheaton, Ill., for the Pete Willson Invitational on Jan. 25 and 26.  UWSP wraps up regular season conference action at UW-La Crosse on Feb. 1.
 
A week later, the Pointers travel to UW-Eau Claire for the WIAC Championships on Feb. 8.  A late season tune-up at Lakeland on Feb. 15 precedes the NCAA Upper Midwest Regional on Feb. 22 and 23.  The season concludes on March 8 and 9 at the NCAA Championships in Roanoke, Va.
 
All-American Dan Squires (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) will return to the 2018-19 squad after finishing sixth in the country at 184.  UWSP also brings back conference runner-ups Ben Vosters (Hatley, Wis./Wittenberg-Birnamwood) (125) and Luke Smiley (Plainfield, Ill./North) (149).
