STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point wrestling team rallied and held on for a 26-21 win over visiting UW-Platteville in conference action on Wednesday at Berg Gym.
Ben Vosters (Hatley, Wis./Wittenberg-Birnamwood) got UWSP on the board with a 13-3 major decision at 133. His opponent, Scott Arneson, narrowly escaped a first period fall, but Vosters dominated the remainder of the match.
At 149,
Alex Heiden (Stratford, Wis./Stratford) was down early, but in the second period reversed roles and pinned his opponent at 4:45 as UWSP closed to within 11-10.
Luke Smiley (Plainfield, Ill./North) dominated his opponent at 157 to the tune of an 18-0 tech fall as the Pointers took the lead at 15-11.
Ben Kasten (Reedsville, Wis./Brillion) kept the momentum going with a second period fall at 165 to put UWSP up 21-11.
The Pioneers got back-to-back decision wins to close within 21-17of the Pointers.
Jerry Lipke (Milton, Wis./Milton) put an end to the UWP run with a 19-3 tech fall victory to seal the dual win for UWSP.
The Pointers remain at home with another conference dual against UW-Eau Claire next Wednesday (Dec. 12) at 7:00 p.m.
