DECORAH, Iowa – The UW-Stevens Point wrestling team had five athletes go 2-0 on the day as the Pointers defeated Cornell, 32-16, and Luther, 31-8, at the Luther Duals on Saturday.

The Pointers opened the day with back-to-back falls by
Matt Berlin (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) at 125 and
Ben Vosters (Hatley, Wis./Wittenberg-Birnamwood) at 133 to jump out to a 12-0 lead over Cornell.
Wyatt Thiel (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) won a 9-7 decision at 141 to increase the lead to 15-0.
At 157,
Luke Smiley (Plainfield, Ill./North) recorded an 18-2 tech fall victory in just 2:55. The Pointers finished strong with falls by
Jerry Lipke (Milton, Wis./Milton) at 197 and
Steven Anderson (Appleton, Wis./East) at 285 to complete the 32-16 win.
In the dual against Luther, Berlin and Vosters again posted wins. Berlin won a 13-5 major decision and Vosters got a 5-0 decision win. Thiel followed with a fall at 2:18 for a 13-0 lead.
Smiley picked up his second win of the day with an 8-3 decision. At 165,
Jordan Weinzetl (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) pinned his opponent at 1:14 of the first period.
UWSP closed out the dual with decision wins by
James Borgen (Amherst, Wis./Amherst) at 174,
Zack Moon (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) at 184 and Anderson won again at 285.
The Pointers return home to face UW-Platteville in conference action on Wednesday (Dec. 5) at 7:00 p.m. in Berg Gym.
