Vosters' Win Highlights Pointer Open Results for UWSP

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point wrestling team opened its season with the annual Pointer Open on Saturday.
 
Results
 
Senior Ben Vosters (Hatley, Wis./Wittenberg-Birnamwood) won the 133 pound bracket.  He won by fall at 1:55 in his first match of the day.  He advanced to the finals with a 19-0 tech fall victory.  In the finals, he beat teammate Matt Berlin (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) by a 7-5 score in sudden victory.  Berlin reached the final with three falls in the 133 bracket.  Jordan Boldt (Bonduel, Wis./Bonduel) placed third in the bracket with a fall and two decision wins on the day.
 
In the 165 bracket, Jordan Weinzetl (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) finished second with two falls and a decision to reach the finals.  His matchup in the final was against Jeremy Vester of Central, the ninth-ranked wrestler in the country at 165.  Ben Kasten (Reedsville, Wis./Brillion) took third with a fall and two decisions. 
 
Luke Smiley (Plainfield, Ill./North) took second and Brandon Peckham (Plainfield, Wis./Tri-County) finished sixth, each winning three matches in the 157 bracket.  Both won by fall once and had two decision victories.  In the finals, Smiley was ahead in the third period before last year's national runner-up rallied to take the title.

Ross Agg (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) won by fall three times and took third place with a tech fall.  Alex Mischka (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) had a pair of falls to take fourth.
 
Graysen Sorenson won four matches in the 174 weight class to finish fourth.  He had a fall and three decision wins. Teammate Taran Holland (Princeton, Wis./Princeton) registered three falls to take fifth.
 
Steve Anderson won by fall four times in the heavyweight bracket to place fifth.  Andrew Whelan (Mondovi, Wis./EC Memorial) won three times in the consolation bracket, including once by fall.  Noah Wieczorek (Clear Lake, Wis./Clear Lake) won twice, including by fall at 0:02.
 
Austin Stebane (Brillion, Wis./Brillion) finished fifth in the 184 bracket.
  
Wyatt Thiel (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) picked up a pair of wins in the 141 weight class.  We won by decision and by fall at 0:55.
 
Isaiah Baker (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake) earned a victory by fall in the 149 bracket.  Teammate Mason Wheeler (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) beat Devin Dilley of Central College by a 13-3 major decision.
 
UWSP heads to Oshkosh next Saturday (Nov. 10) for the Dan Gable Open.  Action begins at 9:00 a.m.
