WHITEWATER, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point wrestling team opened conference action at UW-Whitewater on Wednesday with a 34-9 defeat to the homestanding Warhawks.
 
Sophomore Luke Smiley (Plainfield, Ill./North) won by fall in his matchup at 157.  He pinned Sonny Schieldt at 2:47.
 
Matt Berlin (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) got UWSP on the board with a 5-3 overtime victory at 133 over Blake Huffmon.
 
Jordan Weinzetl (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) battled to a 3-1 decision loss at 165.  He held a 1-0 lead heading into the third period.
 
In the heavyweight matchup, Steve Anderson fell by a narrow 4-2 score.  He battled back from a 1-0 deficit, but after a second period takedown, was unable to pull in front in the third.
 
The Pointers head to Mequon on Saturday (Nov. 17) to participate in the Concordia Open.  Action starts at 9:00 a.m.
