WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The UW-Stevens Point wrestling team completed a successful day one at the Budd Whitehill Duals in Williamsport, Pa., on Friday.  After a slow start, UWSP nearly rallied to defeat Roger Williams University, but dropped a 25-21 dual.  In the second dual of the day, the Pointers rolled to a 27-9 win over Waynesburg.  To cap the day, the Pointers tied SUNY Cortland, but the Red Dragons earned the dual victory, 19-18, on tie-break criteria.
 
UWSP got falls from Ross Agg (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek), Matt Berlin (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek), James Borgen (Amherst, Wis./Amherst), Joe Crook (Spring Green, Wis./River Valley) and Dylan Diebitz (West Allis, Wis./West Allis) on the day.  Agg, Berlin, Crook and Diebitz went 2-1 on the day.
 
Against RWU, Dan Squires (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) won by a 9-7 decision as UWSP took the final four matches of the dual. 
 
In the win over Waynesburg, Boone Roycraft (Omro, Wis./Winneconne) earned a major decision with Jordan Weinzetl (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) and Bobby Uttecht (Wittenberg, Wis./Wittenberg-Biramwood) winning by decision.  Squires earned his second decision of the day as well.
 
Ben Vosters (Hatley, Wis./Wittenberg-Birnamwood) opened the dual against the Red Dragons with a 5-3 decision. Falls by Berlin and Crook extended the lead to 15-3, but SUNY Cortland reeled off five-straight decisions before Agg tied the dual with a decision of his own.  Tied at 18-18, the dual win went to SUNY Cortland on criteria.
 
The Pointers continue action at the Budd Whitehill Duals on Saturday.  Saturday's dual schedule will be determined later today, please check athletics.uwsp.edu for updates.
