Track Squads Both Win at Big Dawg Invite

STEVENS POINT, Wis.-The UW-Stevens Point track and field teams swept the Big Dawg Invite on Saturday and the Multi-Activity Center.  The men won a seven-team field with an event score of 205 points and the women won the seven-team field with 204 points.

After breaking the university record in the long jump last week, Isabella Weekly (Plainfield, WI/Tri County) made a first-place finish in the high jump.  Weekly cleared the bar at 1.61 meters.

Jacklyn Butler (Oshkosh, WI/West) picked up a first-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles.  Butler finished with a time of 9.28 seconds.  Teammate Sylviann Momont (Auburndale, Wis./Auburndale) finished second with a time of 9.29. 

In the 4x400-meter relay, Kathy Derks (Greenville, WI/Hortonville), Sarah Vils (Mosinee, WI/Mosinee), Leah Trempe (Combined Locks, WI/Kimberly), and Hannah Mertens (West Bend, WI/Hartford Union) finished in first-place.  The group finished with a time of 3:58.04. 

A trio of Pointers took the top three spots in the 200-meter dash.  Abigail Clement, Butler, and Lydia Ulrich (Lake Mills, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) finished in the top three spots.  All three finishing with times of 27.03 or better. 

Another group of Pointers dominated in the 400-meter dash.  Trempe, Vils, Derks, Mertens, Makani Peters (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH), Rebecca Alter (Trevor, Wis./Wilmot) and Tayln Solinsky finished in the top seven spots, respectively.  The top four were just under a minute and the others just under 1:04. 

Lisa Bedessem (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) acquired a second-place finish in the triple jump.  Bedessem finished with a jump of 10.05 meters.

Jordan Tyjeski (Beaver Dam, WI/Beaver Dam) picked up second- and fourth-place finishes in the weight throw and shot put, respectively.  Tyjeski finished with distances of 12.26 and 14.98 meters. 

Tatiana Sotka (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) picked up a third-place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.18.  Emily Schlebecker (Mundelein, IL/Mundelein) also placed third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:19.87. 

On the men's side, Darian Ward and Sheldon Harn (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) picked up first- and third-place finishes in the 60-meter hurdles.  The pair finished with times of 8.46 and 8.76.  Ward's day continued with a victory in the long jump, jumping a distance of 6.82 meters. 

2016 national qualifier Jerry Williams (Watertown, WI/Watertown) finished in first-place in the high jump.  Williams finished with a distance of 14.29 meters. 

Brent Reierson (Watertown, WI/Watertown) and Kyle Nowak (Stratford, WI/Stratford) finished first and second in the shotput. The pair finished with distances of 15.96 and 14.86 meters.  In the weight throw, Logan Heil (Weston, WI/DC Everest) and Reierson finished in first and second with distances of 17.34 and 17.07 meters. 

In the high jump, Brayden Bernhagen (Markesan, Wis./Markesan), Abrahm Schroedl (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) and Jeremy Lee (Viroqua, WI/Viroqua) picked up the top three spots.  The trio jump cleared the bar just under 2.00 meters. 

Lee Jepsen (Auburndale, Wis./Auburndale) and Tanner Akers (Westfield, WI/Westfield) finished second and third in the 60-meter dash.  The pair finished with times of 7.23 and 7.26.  Jepsen's day was not over as he finished in third-place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.21. 

In the pole vault, Jesse Johnson (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) acquired a second-place finish.  Johnson cleared the bar at a height of 4.53 meters. 

In the 4x400 meter relay Matt Sosinsky (Princeton, WI/Princeton), Takuto Kobayashi (Franklin, WI/Franklin), Michael Pomaville (Dousman, WI/Mukwonago), and Jayden Jesse (Genoa City, Wis./Wilmot) finished in third-place.  The group finished with a time of 3:21.37. 

Noah Scheer (Elkhorn, WI/East Troy) finished third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.38.  Distance runner Nathan Dorn (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) also placed third in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:01.36. 

The Pointers travel to Menomonee Wis. for the WIAC Championships on February 24 and 25.
