MEQUON, Wis. – Junior
Ben Vosters (Hatley, WI/Wittenberg-Birnamwood) and senior
Boone Roycraft (Omro, WI/Winneconne) placed third and fifth, respectively, at their weight to lead the UW-Stevens Point wrestling team at the CUW Open on Saturday.
Results
Vosters avenged his loss to UW-Whitewater's Mike Tortorice with a 4-3 decision win in his opening match of the day. He also won via a tech fall over Wartburg's Connor Cleveland. His third-place finish at 125 was behind only the seventh- and eighth-ranked wrestlers in weight class.
Roycraft opened his day with a first-period fall. He won three other matches by decision to go 5-1 on the day. His lone defeat at 157 came by a 4-0 decision to reigning National Champion Logan Thomsen of Wartburg.
Alex Heiden (Stratford, WI/Stratford) and
Luke Smiley (Plainfield, Ill./North) each recorded a fall in the 149 bracket. At 165,
Jaden Boivin (Marinette, WI/Marinette) and
Tanner Goddard (Green Bay, WI/Ashwaubenon) each picked up a pair of win. Goddard won by fall just 1:19 into a consolation match against Wheaton's Jediah Wills.
Austin Jahnke earned a pair of decision victories in the consolation bracket at 184.
The Pointers head to UW-Oshkosh on Monday for a conference dual against the Titans at 7:00 p.m.
