Box Score 2 STEVENS POINT, Wis— The UW-Stevens Point softball team dropped both games of a double header in the teams home opener with UW-La Crosse, falling by scores of 5-2, and 4-2 at McCarty Memorial field.

UW-La Crosse (19-10, 4-2 WIAC) Sydney Murphy went 2-4 with 2 RBI to lead the Eagles to a 5-2 victory in game one over UWSP (7-16, 0-4 WIAC).
Murphy had an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning to give the Eagles a 5-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth with the bases loaded, Katie Uhlenbrauck (Hortonville, WI/Hortonville) and Justine Ertl (Menomonee Falls, WI/Menomonee Falls) drew back-to-back walks to cut the lead to three, but were unable to capitalize with runners in scoring position.
Caitlyn Hughes pitched five innings, picking up the win for UW-La Crosse. Maddie Durie (Appleton, WI/East) pitched 4.1 innings for the Pointers, and Averi Kanyuh (Rapid River, WI/Rapid River) pitched 2.2 in relief.

Megan Nelson drove in two runs while going 3-4 to lead UW-La Crosse to a 4-2 victory in the second game of the afternoon.
In the top of the seventh, Nelson hit a two RBI double to extend the Eagles lead to four.
The Pointers wouldn't go quietly, with Justine Ertl (Menomonee Falls, WI/Menomonee Falls) driving in her seventh RBI of the season to get the Pointers on the board. The Pointers pulled within two, after Alyssa Cooper (Little Suamico, WI/Bay Port) scored on a wild pitch.
Jessie Carignan pitched four innings picking up the win, and Katie Klein earning the save. Amelia Heup (Milwaukee, WI/Lutheran) pitched 4.2 innings for the Pointers, and Durie pitching 2.1 in relief.
The Pointers will return to action on Sunday, April 17 facing another WIAC opponent in UW-River Falls in a double header. Start times are set for 1 pm and 3 pm at McCarty Memorial field.
