GREENWOOD, Ind. – Five members of the UW-Stevens Point softball team,
Rachael Madsen (Kenosha, Wis./Mary D. Bradford),
Trinity Otto (Mequon, Wis./Homestead),
Kodi Rizzo (Newark, Ill./Newark Community),
Kaitlyn Roberts (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville) and
Hailee Thompson (Bonduel, Wis./Bonduel) were recognized as College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honorees, the organization announced Tuesday (May 26).

Madsen picked up her second-straight Academic All-District honor, her first as a Pointer. This season, the junior started and played in 41 games, posting a batting average of .272 with 23 runs scored, eight doubles, one triple and three home runs. Madsen picked up 14 stolen bases on 19 attempts. Earlier this month, she was named to the All-WIAC honorable mention team.
Otto earned her first Academic All-District honor. The senior started and played in all 45 games for the Pointers this season. Otto led the team with seven home runs and 36 RBI. She recorded a batting average of .228 with 28 hits, 21 runs scored and four doubles. Otto went 6-for-6 in stolen bases. She was named to the NCAA Winona Regional All-Tournament team earlier this month.
Rizzo picked up her first Academic All-District honor. This season, the sophomore played in 34 games, with 28 of them pitching. Rizzo pitched in 85 innings for the Pointers, posting a record of 11-3 with three saves, three complete games and one shutout. While playing on both sides of the field, she picked up a batting average of .250 with nine hits, 11 runs scored, four doubles and four RBI. Rizzo successfully stole six bases on seven attempts. Earlier this month, she was named to the All-WIAC Team.
Roberts earned her second-straight Academic All-District honor. The junior started and played in all 45 games for the Pointers, posting a batting average of .341 with 44 hits, 36 runs scored, six doubles, two triples, five home runs and 21 RBI. Roberts picked up 20 stolen bases on 23 attempts. In March, she was recognized as the WIAC Kwik Trip Position Athlete of the Week for the week of March 2-8.
Thompson picked up her first Academic All-District honor. The sophomore started and played in all 45 games for the Pointers this season, posting a batting average of .372 with 54 hits, 30 runs scored, 15 doubles, two triples, one home run and 26 RBI. Thompson successfully stole six bases on nine attempts. Earlier this month, she was named to the All-WIAC first team and the NFCA All-Region second team.
The Pointers season ended in the NCAA Tournament for a third year in a row. This season, they became the first WIAC fifth seed to win the conference tournament, the first tournament title since 2001. Along with Madsen, Rizzo and Thompson,
Morgan Harwood (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) and
Sophie Schmidt (Twin Lakes, Wis./Wilmot Union) earned All-WIAC honors, while head coach,
Ryan Konitzer, and assistant coach,
Elizabeth Malarski, earned WIAC Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
Student athletes selected must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50, be a sophomore and compete in 90 percent of the institution's games played or must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's games. For pitchers, a student-athlete must have made at least 17 appearances or pitched 35 innings.
