Allison Kuhne gave UWSP a boost, hitting a two-run homerun in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit 5-2. Katie Eppard led the charge for the Knights, starting the bottom of the sixth off with a double and would eventually score on a single to extend the lead 7-2.
Leading off the top of the seventh,
Sam Raddant (Shawano, WI/Shawano) started the comeback rally with a solo shot to centerfield cutting the lead to four. After back-to-back singles from
Jordon Schreiner (Kaukauna, WI/Kaukauna) and
Cassidy Winter (Westfield, WI/Westfield), Schreiner would score on a single from
Bailie Sheahan (Salem, WI/Wilmot Union) up the middle. A line shot to the pitcher from Sam Olson for the third out ended hopes of a comeback as the Pointers fell 7-4.
In game two, Dubuque University was unable to handle
Sydney Gorges (Hortonville, WI/Hortonville)' pitching as she took down the Spartans in order, crediting herself with a perfect game in five complete innings.
UWSP came out firing on all cylinders, scoring all eight runs in the opening two innings. The Pointers batted all nine hitters, scoring four runs in the opening frame with four more runs to follow in the second.
In the bottom of the first, the Pointers capitalized on two walks and a hit batsman to score first in the game after Schreiner reached on an error by Spartan, Ainsley Billesbach. Three batters later, Olson doubled to right field giving UWSP a 4-0 lead.
UWSP continued their hot hitting into the bottom of the second inning as the Pointers took a commanding lead, 8-0, after a three-run homerun by
Paige Allen (South Elgin, IL/South Elgin).
From there, Gorges kept the Spartan offense at bay pitching a mere 31 pitches in five innings. Gorges' perfect game is just the seventh in Pointer history.
