Box Score MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. – Two goals from
Cara Lemirande (Janesville, WI/Craig) weren't enough to propel the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team past No. 7/9 St. Thomas as the Pointers dropped the second game of the series 6-2 on Sunday afternoon at Saint Thomas Ice Arena.
Box Score St. Thomas improves to 9-1-1 overall with the win, while UW-Stevens Point drops to 6-6-2.
Six of the game's eight goals were scored in the third period but St. Thomas came out ahead, adding four goals in the third to their 2-0 lead after two periods.
Finding themselves down 3-0 early in the third period, Lemirande cut the lead to two goals, scoring at the 8:33 mark from
Mackenzie Kratch (Waconia, MN/Waconia). The Tommies responded, however, with two quick empty-net goals of their own increasing their lead to 5-1 with just under half of the third period yet to play.
At 17:40 of the third period, Lemirande struck again, finding the back of the net on a power-play goal from
Kat Nejedlo (Fond du Lac, WI/Fond du Lac) and
Ellie Punnett (Hailey, ID/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame). Within a minute of Lemirande's second goal, the Tommies scored at 18:03 to finish the scoring.
The Pointers had double-digit shots in each period, which ultimately lead to outshooting the Tommies 32-25. Mackenzie Torpy made 32 saves for UST, while
Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, MN/South St. Paul) stopped 25 shots for UWSP.
UW-Stevens Point is off until Jan. 8 when Gustavus Adolphus visits Ice Hawks Arena for a 7 p.m. game. The Pointers host Marian the following afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
