OSHKOSH, Wis. –
Samantha Haas (Waupun, WI/Waupun) won the pole vault ahead of teammate
Shannon Burke (Sussex, WI/Hamilton) as the UW-Stevens Point women's outdoor track and field team sits third in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships after the first day of competition on Friday, May 2 at UW-Oshkosh.
Day One Results Haas, a sophomore, took home the individual title in the pole vault by clearing a height of 3.73 meters (12' 2 ¾"). Burke claimed runner-up honors in the event as a freshman with a height of 3.68 meters (12' ¾").
UW-Stevens Point accumulated 38 points on day one of the championships and sits three points behind second-place UW-Stout. UW-La Crosse leads the way with 58 points.
Kadie Flynn (Appleton, WI/North) earned four points for UW-Stevens Point after taking fifth in the hammer throw (49.76m, 163'6").
Maggie Martin (Chilton, WI/Chilton) also earned a point with an eighth-place finish in the event (46.42m, 152'3").
The Pointers also got five points from
Paige Haberkorn (Oconomowoc, WI/Oconomowoc), who placed fourth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (11:49.33).
Holly Winberg (Forest Lake, MN/Forest Lake) took seventh (12:14.55) to earn two points.
Lauren Dilley (Middleton, WI/Middleton) posted a sixth-place performance in the 10,000 meter run (39:25.56) on her way to three points.
The final five points came from a fourth-place finish in the 4x800 meter relay (9:34.11).
The WIAC Championships continue on Saturday, May 3 at UW-Oshkosh.
