CLERMONT, Fla. – The UW-Stevens Point softball team went 1-1 on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Lawrence University 6-0 in the first game of the day before falling to Western Connecticut State 8-5 in the nightcap

The Pointers plated two runs in the top of the third inning as
Sam Raddant (Shawano, WI/Shawano) and
Brittany Sass (Appleton, WI/East) each drove in runs.
In the top of the seventh inning the Pointers added some insurance runs, as a
Jordon Schreiner (Kaukauna, WI/Kaukauna) single to center drove in a pair of runs and Alecia Hahnemann tacked on an RBI to cap a four-run inning.
Starter
Michelle Jones (Madison, WI/La Follette) shut the door with a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the 7th to cap the 6-0 shutout victory. Jones collected five strikeouts and walked just one batter, scattering five Lawrence hits.
The Pointers posted an error-free game and allowed just one base runner to advance past second base.
In game two, the Pointers struck first in the bottom of the second, as Katie Schulfer singled to left and
Katie Krueger (Plover, WI/SPASH) came around to score on a fielding error by the left fielder.
In the third, WCS answered with three runs to pull in front 3-1. In the fifth, another two runs came across to give WCS a 5-1 edge.
The Pointers answered with a three run fifth inning to pull within one, 5-4, but three more runs in the top of the sixth by Western Conn. was too much to overcome as the Pointers fell 8-5.
Sara Babbitts (Green Bay, WI/Ashwaubenon) suffered the loss, allowing eight runs, five earned in five innings of work. Offensively, the Pointers collected six hits.
Bekah Rennicke (Mequon, WI/Homestead) drove in two of the team's six runs.
UW-Stevens Point (6-4) will have Wednesday off and return to action on Thursday, March 22 with a pair of games against Elmhurst and Frostburg State.
