Game 1 Box | Game 2 Box

STEVENS POINT – The UW-Stevens Point softball belted out 24 hits over two games to sweep a nonconference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Marian University by scores of 7-3 and 15-5.

The Pointers (15-9) used the solid pitching performance of Cassie Krum (Stratford/Stratford) in game one, as she took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before Marian strung together two two-out hits, scoring three runs before Krum forced a 4-3 groundout to end the game.

Kim Liegel (Madison/LaFollette) and Elyse Nelson (Batavia, IL/Batavia) each tallied two hits while Nelson and Katie Schulfer each drove in two runs in the victory.

After a scoreless first inning the Sabres struck first, plating one run in the top of the second inning.

In the bottom of the frame, the Pointer bats answered in a big way, plating six runs on four sinbles and two doubles.

In the third, the Pointers tacked on four runs, all unearned. The fourth inning the Pointers kept the hit parade alive, plating another five runs to go in front 15-1. In the fifth, Marian mounted a mini comeback, scoring four runs in the frame before making the final out.

Chelsea Hensler (Waterloo/Waterloo) picked up the victory, going the distance, allowing 10 hits, five runs, all earned and struck out three. Nelson tallied three hits and joined Jenna Ansorge with a pair of RBIs.

UW-Stevens Point returns to action on Thursday, April 14 with another pair of nonconference games when they host Ripon College at McCarty Memorial Field. Game time Thursday is set for 3 p.m.
