CLERMONT, Fla. – The UW-Stevens Point softball team pushed its winning streak to six games, closing out their trip to the sunshine state with four straight victories including a 11-2 five inning victory over the nation's fourth-ranked team, Eastern Connecticut State.
Sarah Butts (Greenfield/Greenfield) helped power UWSP past Eastern Connecticut, going 2-for-4 from the plate with a double and two RBI. Megan Tracey finished the game 2-for-3 and Katie Krueger (Plover, WI/SPASH) had a big day finishing 3-for-4 with six RBI including a double and a grand slam.
Sara Babbits picked up the win, throwing a complete game four-hitter.
The Pointers closed action on Thursday with a 5-1 win over Bennedictine University of Illinois. Elyse Nelson (Batavia, IL/Batavia) and Kimberly Liegel (Madison/LaFollette) each finished the game 2-for-4 while Lauren Watkins (Baraboo/Baraboo) was 2-for-3 with a triple and a RBI.
Michelle Jones (Madison, WI/La Follette) earned the complete game four hit victory, walking three and striking out one.
On Friday the Pointers tacked on two more victories, a 13-4 six inning victory over Buena Vista of Iowa and a 9-1 six inning victory over Williams (Mass.)
Against Buena Vista, Tracey led the way going 3-for-4 with a triple while Nelson was 3-for-4 from the plate. Watkins finished 2-2 and Liegel drove in a pair.
Jones picked up the victory in relief of starter Cassie Krum (Stratford/Stratford).
Against Williams Butts and Nelson each drove in two runs while Krueger, Kelly Arndt (Ashwaubenon, WI/Ashwaubenon) and Liegel each drove in a run of their own.
Babbits tallied the complete game victory, striking out one and scattering six hits.
The Pointers (11-3) now return home and await warmer weather. UWSP is next scheduled to take to the field in Decorah, Iowa on March 30th when they face Luther College.
