CLERMONT, Fla. – The UW-Stevens Point softball team rebounded from a pair of losses on Monday with a pair of victories on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Bowdoin (Maine) 10-1 in five innings and followed that with a 4-2 victory over Southern Maine.
In the opener the Pointers' offense was on showcase as Elyse Nelson (Batavia, IL/Batavia) continued her torrid hitting in the spring going 3-for-3 with two home runs including a grand slam. She singlehandedly drove in six of the Pointers 10 runs in the game.
Kimberly Liegel (Madison/LaFollette) had her breakout game of the trip, going 3-for-3 from the dish with a triple and two RBI. Katie Krueger (Plover, WI/SPASH) also finished the day with a double and a RBI.
Sara Babbitts (Green Bay, WI/Ashwaubenon) earned the complete game victory, scattering six hits and striking out two.
In game two the Pointers offense cooled but behind solid pitching UWSP came out on top 4-2. Michelle Jones (Madison, WI/La Follette) went six plus innings to secure the victory before giving way to Cassie Krum (Stratford/Stratford), who earned the save.
Sarah Butts (Greenfield/Greenfield) finished game two 2-for-4 with two RBI and Megan Tracey finished the game 3-for-3.
UW-Stevens Point will take their off-day on Wednesday and return to action on Thursday, March 24 when they take on third-ranked Eastern Connecticut State and Benedictine (Ill.).
